Local Nature Partnerships

Local Nature Reserves (LNRs) are established and managed by local authorities, following consultation with Natural Resources Wales (NRW) under the National Parks and Access to the Countryside Act 1949. The Nature Towns and Cities programme represents an ambitious step forward in this community -focused approach. Building on the learning from the founding partners community programmes including Nature Neighbourhoods, we're working with voluntary, community and social enterprise organisations to understand local needs.

Local Places for Nature Programme

These include: Community Packages Scheme delivered by Keep Wales Tidy (KWT) Local Places for Nature (on keepwalestidy.cymru) Pre-paid garden packages for small community groups to create nature gardens. It also offers larger development packages to organisations within the same programme.

Nature Neighbourhoods, a partnership project between the RSPB, WWF and National Trust, was a direct response to this call, supporting communities to co-design an action plan for nature in their neighbourhoods, based on local needs and priorities.
